ACS acted as Principle Contractor for the ILI repairs on their 900mm diameter gas pipeline on the line between Bathgate and Pettinain in Scotland.
The works were carried out under the National Grid Civils Framework contract.
They were set in 3 separate remote locations and consisted of a site setup with welfare, car parking and signage. The locations were as diverse as a Scottish Power wind farm, 2 miles within Forestry Commission land and a remote farmer’s field with livestock.
Additional to the excavations, a stream had to be diverted as one of the excavations was within the location of the stream. This involved co-operation with both National Grid Environmental and Health and Safety personnel and the Scottish Environmental Agency.
There were 11 excavations in total within the 3 locations and due to the varying nature of the ground conditions, various shoring techniques and access points needed to be established including the installation of 3.5m deep trench boxes.
All works were completed without any environmental disruption and a commendation was received by ACS from National Grid Works Managers.
